Small businesses lead flexible working adoption, large companies lag behind A new study, commissioned by Microsoft Corp and conducted by Vanson Bourne, interviewed 1,500 workers across 15 European countries on their attitudes towards flexible working. It shows that small businesses better meet employees’ demands to have greater flexibility in deciding when and where to work. The study revealed that even though the majority of office workers want to work more flexibly, the larger the organisation, the less likely its employees are enabled to do so. Cloud Computing Used by a Fifth of SMEs

A fifth of UK small firms are using hosted IT services, so-called “cloud computing”, research from Microsoft has found. Microsoft’s global survey of 3,193 small and medium-sized firms found that 20.9% of those in the UK use cloud computing for services like email and accounting. Cloud computing is a way of using the Internet to support work-related tasks people perform on their computers, such as storing and sharing information. Instead of purchasing software and having to install it on their PC, the applications are hosted on secure servers they access over the Internet “in the cloud”. Microsoft Split Small Business Server 2008

Microsoft announce plans to release Small Business Server 2008 and split the package! Just as Microsoft made their Vista OS in five flavours now they’re planning the same tactic with Small Business Server 2008 (SBS 2008). Formerly code-named "Cougar", MS SBS 2008 is to be sold in two versions. The Redmond software giant will launch Standard and Premium editions of SBS 2008 to cater for firms of 50 or less employees. For SMEs of the medium-sized persuasion, MS Essesntial Business Server (EBS) 2008 is designed for firms of up to 250 employees.
