New Research & Development Grant for Small Business Innovation

Small businesses will be able to access financial support to fund innovations from April, following the launch of a new government research and development grant. Managed by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB), the R&D grant will be introduced on the 4th April 2011 and offer small firms three types of grants ? proof-of-market grant (firms can apply for up to £25,000) proof-of-concept grant (up to £100,000) and development of prototype grant (up to £250,000) The grant will allow small businesses across the UK to research and develop new products, processes and services. Grant helps firms exhibit overseas

UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) is doubling the number of grants available to small businesses that want to exhibit at overseas trade shows. At present, the UKTI Tradeshow Access Programme (TAP) enables small businesses to apply for three grants during their firm’s lifetime to help them attend overseas trade fairs. But from April 2009, firms can apply for an additional three grants, provided they visit trade shows in more than one country and only apply for one grant per financial year. Grants of £1,000, £1,400 and £1,800 are available to help cover the costs of exhibiting at 400 eligible tradeshows worldwide.
