British Library Launches E–commerce Programme

The British Library has launched Web in Feb, a series of events that examine key online trends and help small businesses to grow using e-commerce and e-marketing.

The British Library Business & IP Centre programme aims to provide start-ups with the key information they need to trade online and improve their web presence. Through February, workshops and discussion forums will examine the power of social media and the advantages and pitfalls of trading online.

Events range in price, with several being free to attend. Web in Feb also offers web tools ranging from downloadable guides and podcasts to a “Business Essentials wiki”.

Web in Feb is part of the international Social Media Week, and includes the Inspiring Entrepreneurs event in which BBC technology correspondent, Rory Cellan-Jones, will examine the success of entrepreneurs such as the founders of Superjam and Songkick.

British Library head of business marketing, Isabel Oswell, said:

“With the meteoric rise of social media, e-commerce and mobile technologies, there is no doubt that 2011 presents huge opportunities for entrepreneurs with an online presence.”

“The Business & IP Centre’s Web in Feb programme of events will provide the practical tools, advice and inspiration for small businesses to use the internet to develop their brand awareness, target new audiences and launch in overseas markets.”
