Livebusiness growth challenge

Livebusiness growth challengeIndependent business cashflow specialist, Bibby Financial Services, has just launched the Livebusiness growth challenge, to bring to life the experiences of three budding entrepreneurs as they experience the highs and lows of running their own business and compete to win a mentor team of business experts. The Livebusiness growth challenge is part of Bibby’s new Livebusiness programme – a series of initiatives designed to support and inspire the UK small business community.

From its home at, entrepreneurs and small business owners who visit the site will effectively be a ‘fly on the boardroom wall’ of; Sam Fisher, founder of Brighter Creative, a graphic and web design agency, Rebecca Davies, managing director of Cuthbert Recruitment, a specialist recruitment agency in Edinburgh and Maggie Andrews, who runs her own PC accessory company, Wrist Donut, as they track the trials and tribulations of running a small business via regular blogs and video diaries. In addition visitors to the site will also have free access to a wealth of valuable business information and research to help them run their business.

The entrepreneurs will not only be competing to scoop the grand prize of a free mentoring team made up of leading business experts, but also vying to win a one-to-one consultation with former Dragons’ Den member Rachel Elnaugh, to be broadcast on the Livebusiness site in February 2009.

Commenting on her involvement in the Livebusiness challenge, Rachel Elnaugh said:

“Forget the ‘nine to five’, running your own business is all-encompassing and is a way of life requiring significant personal investment as well as time and money. The road to business success is not always a smooth one and can be decidedly rocky.”

“From my own well-documented experiences with Red Letter Days, finance issues such as managing cash flow and seeking business funding are paramount to the running of a successful business. Drawing on my own experiences and time with Dragons’ Den, I am looking forward to being a part of the Bibby Livebusiness growth challenge and helping more entrepreneurs make their business dreams become a reality.”

As well as getting the inside track on the do’s and don’ts of running their own business and benchmarking their progress with like-minded entrepreneurs, visitors to the Livebusiness site will have the opportunity to vote for the business owner they believe is best achieving their goals. The entrepreneur with the most votes at the end of March 2009 will win the first Livebusiness challenge.

And each time a visitor logs on to the Livebusiness site and votes for who they want to win the growth challenge, they too will be entered into a draw to win the same mentor package for their own business.

Once votes are counted, both triumphant Livebusiness entrepreneur and winning site visitor will have access to a team of leading industry experts which comprise the mentor panel, including: a specialist in business funding, an experienced people development and leadership consultant an ethical business specialist and a highly successful e-commerce entrepreneur who commands a multi-million pound business.

David Robertson, global chief executive of Bibby Financial Services, said:

“Part of a family run Group launched in 1807 by Liverpool entrepreneur John Bibby, we have always understood the challenges faced by the small business owner and sought to keep the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship alive throughout our organisation.”

“Running your own business remains one of the most exciting and rewarding things you can do. However, it can also be a lonely, isolating experience, which takes energy, grit and determination and in today’s economy can be a tougher challenge than ever. Through our Livebusiness programme we hope to help the UK’s four million small to medium-sized firms thrive against economic uncertainty by bringing the very real issues associated with running your own business to life, and providing them with a platform to share their challenges, experiences and ideas.”

The Livebusiness growth challenge is the first initiative in Bibby Financial Services’ Livebusiness programme and will run from October 2008 until the end of March 2009. The Livebusiness programme will continue into 2009 with a series of further initiatives designed to help small to medium sized businesses achieve success.
