Mary Portas, also known as the Queen of Shops, has been appointed to lead an independent review into the future of the High Street, The Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister have announced today. The purpose of the review will be to identify what government, local authorities and businesses can do to promote the development of more prosperous and diverse high streets. It will also form part of the Government’s wider Growth Review which is examining how we can remove the barriers to achieve strong, sustainable and balanced growth that is more evenly shared across the country and between industries. Winners of an exclusive scholarship package to attend three master classes from the hugely successful Mary Portas guide to successful retailing, will also meet Mary "Queen of Shops" herself, it has been announced. Confirmation that the five winners will be invited to meet the Queen of Shops, comes with just eight days remaining for retailers to apply for the chance to attend the three most popular master classes in the programme.
