More Sophisticated Ransomware is an Immediate Threat For Small Businesses

Increasingly sophisticated ransomware is helping hackers to achieve “skyrocketing” profits as smaller businesses remain unprepared for such cyber attacks, according to a report by Cisco. The Cisco 2016 Midyear Cybersecurity Report revealed that scammers are increasingly operating undetected by broadening their focus from client-side to server-side exploits, while a new trend in exploiting server vulnerabilities is also evident. As well as expanding their focus, cyber scammers are also evolving their attack methods with Windows Binary exploits, which allows criminals to infiltrate a business’ network, becoming the top web attack of the past few months. UK Small Enterprises Failing to Adopt Digital Technology

A worrying 29% of UK small businesses still haven’t implemented digital technology with 19% of employees concerned about their business’ digital future a report by Cisco  with the Institute of Cultural Capital (ICC) has revealed. Polling 3,000 UK workers, the report also found that 29% of employees believe that their leadership team is struggling to push through new digital ways of working, with the same number stating that their business doesn’t have the right ‘culture’ to combat this problem. The report also highlighted a potential communication issue between employees and management with 26% of workers having had their ideas for digital technology dismissed – many said they had suggested a digital technology tool to leadership only for nothing to come of their proposal. Cisco and Management Today Award 2011’s Business Heroes

Businesses from across the UK were named “Business Heroes” as Cisco announced the results of its hunt to find Britain’s smart businesses. In its inaugural year, the Business Heroes Awards were made up of six categories, each celebrating shining examples of the UK’s most enterprising small businesses. The contest to find the UK’s most resilient businesses, in association with Management Today, saw Cisco award the title of “Business Hero” to six firms across the UK and in a variety of sectors, including recruitment, sustainability, technology and manufacturing. Six other companies were also named as highly commended in each category.
