About our business expert, Shiona Davies
Shiona Davies is the author of the SME Finance Monitor, a quarterly report looking into SMEs and their access to finance. This independent report, published by BDRC Continental, is used by government, banks and business groups to inform the debate around lending to SMEs and has been quoted widely in the national and international press.
Shiona speaks regularly at events and conferences on SMEs and bank lending to small businesses, and has recently started working with the Enterprise Research Centre based at Warwick University, a new hub for research on the SME and policy landscape. Shiona’s background is in financial services.
Since joining BDRC Continental in January 2000, she has been involved in a number of major assignments for financial and public sector clients, including major tracking studies for HSBC and the Business Finance Taskforce.
She has also worked for all the major high street banks, and works regularly on consumer and B2B finance issues, developing a good understanding of key financial issues and the role of support and advice in improving consumer financial capability.
Prior to this, Shiona worked at NatWest, initially providing support to managers responsible for companies with turnover £1-100m and dealing with these companies on a day-to-day basis.
For her last five years at the bank she worked in the Market Research department where she was responsible for both undertaking and commissioning research among these corporate customers.
