About our business expert, Chris Barling

Chris Barling is a true ecommerce industry expert. In 1996 he co-founded Actinic, one of the UK’s first and most successful ecommerce startups.

Now called SellerDeck, the company rode the dot com wave, growing from a garden shed operation to floatation on the London Stock Exchange in less than four years.

An enthusiastic entrepreneur and business angel, Chris has a passion for helping small businesses take advantage of new technology. He loves to learn his subject matter in depth and is regarded by friends and colleagues as a walking and talking encyclopaedia of ecommerce.

Chris has a first class honours degree in computer science from Brunel University and more than 30 years’ IT industry experience, holding senior positions in Reuters and Cable and Wireless.

As well as being chairman of SellerDeck, he is a non-executive director of a number of other companies, including Hargreaves Lansdown plc, i-KMP and Powered Now.

Chris is a keen Arsenal supporter and lives in his home town of Teignmouth, Devon where he indulges his passion for sailing whenever he gets the chance.
