Hilary Devey: Dragons’ Den’s New Diva
Just as you’re waiting for the next series of Dragons’ Den to appear on your screens along comes a new dragon: Hilary Devey.
Replacing James Caan for the 2011 series of the hit BBC series, Hilary Devey joins Deborah Meaden, Theo Paphitis, Peter Jones and Duncan Bannatyne in the den.
Hilary Devey came to prominence with her appearance on Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire a few years ago and more recently five tv’s The Business Inspector where she was sent in to transform struggling businesses into profitable ventures.
Devey’s own background is in the transport industry where she worked for many years before setting up Pall-Ex, the UK’s largest palletised freight network. Having been turned down for a bank loan to start her business, Hilary Devey sold her house and her car in order to finance her own business. Pall-Ex is now a multi-million pound business with a distribution network covering every postcode in the UK and a healthy expansion into Europe.
So, it looks like Hilary Devey will be in a position to understand the struggles of budding entrepreneurs as they pitch to the Dragons and her practical, non-nonsense attitude will be a change from James Caan’s chin-stroking contemplations.
Speaking about her appointment to the BBC2 business show, Devey said:
“I am proud to be able to do my part to support the next generation of UK entrepreneurs.”
