No Small Business Break for SME Owners
Many of the UK’s SME managers are vowing they will stay on call round the clock to deal with business issues whilst on holiday this summer.
A poll of 293 SMEs by business-focused ISP, Eclipse Internet , found that almost three-quarters (73%) of SME owners are planning a summer break this year.
However, 60% will be in daily contact with staff and 17% admitted they would be available 24/7 to deal with any emergencies that crop up whilst they were away.
Almost two-thirds (63%) of those questioned have declared they won’t take the usual two week break opting instead for just a week away or long weekends as they battle with tough economic conditions and tight resources.
“SME owners and managers are fiercely protective of their businesses and with the current economic climate don’t feel comfortable being out of touch with what is going on in the office, even if they are supposed to be on holiday,”
said Clodagh Murphy, director of Eclipse Internet.
“Luckily, the proliferation of mobile devices and remote email connection means that managers can stay in touch easily and try to make the most of their break with as few interruptions as possible.”
