Business Owners: Raise Your Region’s Profile
Businesses that have helped improve their local community have been called on to enter the Enterprising Britain awards for a chance to raise the profile of enterprise in their region.
The awards recognise the most enterprising locations across the UK, but firms that have helped create jobs, support other businesses, or nurture entrepreneurial talent can enter on behalf of their region to draw national attention to the work they have done.
The winning town or area will receive PR support from Enterprising Britain and an accredited logo for merchandising and publicity materials.
This year, eligible businesses can enter one or more of five categories:
- Enterprise Culture
- Driving Entrepreneurial Skills
- Business Support and Start-up
- Global Entrepreneurship
- Social Cohesion
Criteria for each of the categories are detailed on the website. A winner for each category will be selected within each of 12 regions at the end of June, and an overall winner for each region will be selected in July. A total of six of these will then be shortlisted to compete for their town or area to win the national award.
"Enterprising Britain is a great opportunity to showcase communities who have come together to build better futures and inspire others to follow their example,"
said Minster of State for Trade, Investment and Small Business, Lord Davies.
Last year, Lowestoft-based local enterprise agency NWES was the East of England’s regional winner. Lowestoft then went on to win the overall Enterprising Britain award.
"Winning Enterprising Britain really raised the profile of all the organisations working hard to regenerate the area,"
said NWES chief executive, Kevin Horne.
"We have already used the award to attract substantial new investment into the town in the offshore renewables industry and the profile of Lowestoft has risen rapidly with many people wanting to understand how we have achieved so much."
The deadline for entries is 31st May. The winning region will be announced in October.
