Apprenticeship AwardsOutstanding apprentices and their employers are being urged to enter the Apprenticeship Awards, as the deadline for nominations is fast approaching.

The Awards, run by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) and sponsored by City & Guilds, celebrate the achievements of apprentices and the businesses that employ them. With the closing date for applications on 26 February, time is running out for people to become Apprenticeship stars.

So far, 909 people and organisations in England have registered to nominate for the Awards, but more are encouraged to put themselves forward.

The regional Awards ceremonies will be taking place at locations up and down the country where lucky winners from each of the eight categories, including Regional Apprentice of the Year and Small Employer of the Year, will win a coveted trip to the national finals in London.

Simon Waugh, Chief Executive of the National Apprenticeship Service, said:

“With 239,900 people starting Apprenticeships in 2008/2009, we want to recognise the valuable contribution that apprentices make to the economy. With the nomination deadline almost upon us, it’s important that entries are sent as soon as possible so our fantastic Apprenticeships can be celebrated both regionally and nationally.”

Chris Jones, Director General at City & Guilds, said:

“We are delighted to be involved in the Apprenticeship Awards 2010. There have been some fantastic winners over the years and we hope this year will put the spotlight on even more Apprenticeship success stories.”

“As the UK’s largest and most recognised vocational awarding organisation, City & Guilds colleges, training providers and employers deliver a wide range of Apprenticeship qualifications to thousands of learners across a diverse range of industry sectors, so we’ve seen first-hand the real benefits Apprenticeships bring to the development of young people and businesses in the UK.”
