Growing Business Awards to Recognise Firms Successes
Business owners seeking recognition for their firm’s successes have until 18 September to enter the Growing Business Awards, where the winners will gain extensive media coverage.
Organised by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the awards have been running for more than a decade, and seek to reward firms for excellence in every aspect of a business, including innovation, environmental impact, and customer service.
According to the CBI, the winner of each award category will receive coverage on television and radio, as well as in national, regional and trade press. They will also have the right to display the name of their award on their advertising and stationery.
To qualify, businesses must employ fewer than 500 people, be independently owned and based in the UK. Small and medium-sized firms are eligible to enter all ten award categories, providing they meet the individual requirements of the specific award. The categories include:
- New product of the year
- Green business of the year
- The global outlook and expansion award
- The people and performance award
- The technology and innovation award
- The customer excellence award
- Young company of the year
- Young entrepreneur of the year
- Company of the year
- Entrepreneur of the year.
Shortlisted finalists will be interviewed by a judging panel that includes Theo Paphitis from the BBC television series Dragons’ Den.
Applicants are required to submit a 1,000-word application explaining why they should win the award, with reference to the judge’s individual requirements for the specific category. For example, for the young company of the year category, applicants must have started trading after 2005 and beaten their original financial forecasts.
They should also provide a photograph, a 200-word description of the three most important dates in the firm’s history, three sets of their latest audited accounts and financial projections for next year.
Last year’s winner of the Green Award was recycling company, First Mile. Founder Bruce Bartley said:
“Winning the Growing Business Awards was a fantastic experience for First Mile. It significantly elevated our profile with our customers and we won new business directly as a result of the award. All our staff have been delighted with the award and it has given the team great confidence.”
