Free guide offers energy saving tips
Small firms can get advice on how to cut their energy costs, following the launch of a free guide from Business Link.
The ‘Save money by using energy more efficiently’ guide helps businesses identify areas where they can improve their energy efficiency so they can cut their bills and reduce their carbon emissions. Business Link sustainability adviser Erica Russell said:
“Businesses should take the time to have a look at the guide to see the really simple and easy ways to cut your energy bills, such as ensuring that all your staff switch off their equipment when the building is empty,”.
Russell highlighted a case where a small manufacturing firm in Hampshire reduced its annual energy bill by £6,000 simply by turning off all their equipment at the end of the day.
Other tips included in the guide are:
- Encourage staff to turn off equipment when it’s not in use.
- Use stickers and posters — available from the Carbon Trust website — to raise awareness among staff of the importance of energy efficiency.
- Switch lighting to energy–efficient bulbs and make the most of natural light.
- Maintain your equipment.
- Check your energy tariff and shop around for the best energy suppliers.
