Entrepreneurs Pitch for £20k Grant
Entrepreneurs have the chance to win a £20,000 business grant, following the launch of the BT Essence of the Entrepreneur Competition.
BT is searching for 20 entrepreneurs who have used technology to help develop their business. This group of finalists will win a professional photograph by the photographer Rankin.
From these 20, an overall winner will be selected by the judging panel, which includes entrepreneur Peter Jones from BBC television series Dragons’ Den, to receive the title Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year and a £20,000 grant.
Business owners wishing to enter the awards must employ 75 people or less and should fill out the entry form online.
Speaking about the competition, entrepreneur Peter Jones said:
“It takes a lot of guts to take the plunge and start your own business and I want to see that passion and dedication in the entries. However, I am also looking for a business that is doing something different and unique and has a long-term plan for success.”
In addition to the Outstanding Entrepreneur, entrants can apply for other awards including Best Male, Best Female, Best Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Most Original Business Concept.
Last year’s winner of the Best Female Entrepreneur award Kerrie Keeling, founder of A Woman’s Touch a female-run construction company, said:
“The exposure my business has received as a result of the award has been phenomenal and has snowballed into some really major opportunities.”
The photographs of the 20 winners will be displayed at an exhibition on London’s South Bank in January 2009. The deadline for entries is 31 August.
