Scottish Firms Offered Fire Safety Guidance
The Scottish Government has published a series of free sector-specific fire safety guides to help businesses comply with fire safety regulations.
The guides, available to download from the Scottish Government’s InfoScotland website, provide advice to firms in the following sectors:
- Care homes
- Educational & day care for children
- Entertainment and assembly
- Factories & storage
- Offices and shops and
According to Scotland’s minister for community safety Fergus Ewing, the guides are part of a drive to increase awareness and understanding of fire safety legislation among businesses. “The sector-specific fire safety guides mean that businesses across Scotland will have easier access to information and advice,” he said.
Under the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations, which came into force on 1 October 2006, a defined responsible person (the employer or person who controls the premises), has to ensure regular fire risk assessments are carried out on the premises, and to ensure the safety of occupants of the premises in the event of a fire.
